MODEL II SPILL VALVE

TESTING

SET POINT TEST: (continued)

  • Next, slowly slide the Test Weight on the Test Rod away from the Spill Valve End Panel being very careful to not push down or exert any downward force on the Test Rod or Test Weight. The Spill Valve must reach the "opening condition" while the end of the weight is at the flat trip zone section of the Test Rod. The "opening condition" occurs when the bottom of the Test Rod first touches the bottom of the Test Point window opening.

  • Notice that the Test Rod trip zone has markings as shown at the right.

  • If the Valve reaches "opening condition" when the Test Weight is at the "10" mark nearest the Valve body, then the Valve is tripping at a low pressure by 10%. Conversely, if the Valve trips (Test Rod touching bottom of Test Point Window opening) when the Test Weight is at the "10" mark nearest the end of the Test Rod, then the Valve is tripping 10% above the intended Set Point. If the Valve reaches the opening condition prior to reaching the trip zone, try the procedure again and make sure that you are not inadvertantly applying a downward pressure to the Test Rod or Test Weight. You may want to try lifting the weight slightly as you slide it along the Test Rod and release it at intervals along the way. If the Valve trips before you reach the trip zone, the pressure is set too low. If the valve trips beyond the trip zone then the set point is too high. Either event is unlikely with the Model II since the entire trip mechanism is gravity operated. Do not hesitate to call ERL for assistance if the list of possible causes of error, on the next page, fails to achieve the proper Set Point opening response.
